Winter Weekend Getaways

Mike and I have been very lucky to have gone on a few mini vacations during the pandemic. I thought it would be fun to share our favorite spots and how we made a trip of it. As we all know, Mike is a 100% certified influencer, so some of these stays were furnished by the hotel. I’ll let you know if we got anything for free.

The Vintages, Dundee, OR.

The Vintages gave us one night free - letting you know up front.

The Vintages are a row of CUTE vintage trailers where you can live out your 50s Airstream dreams. The one we stayed in was bright blue on the outside and all sleek wood paneled on the inside. We loved this mini trip because it was our very first time out of the house since COVID, which made it feel very special. There is a pool, it’s close to a bunch of incredible wineries, and it was just really cheeky and cute to stay in a vintage trailer.

Dungeness Wildlife Refuge + Campground, Sequim, WA

This incredible cold beach in located 4 hours north of Portland via Olympia and the Olympic Peninsula. I would recommend going Friday - Sunday so you can stop at Hama Hama Oysters on the way. We had Hama Hama Oysters at our wedding, but missed out getting to eat them in person because we drove by on a Thursday. I know, it totally ruined our honeymoon. But back to Dungeness. The campground was lovely and the Dungeness Spit is really something else. If you are a cold beach person GET READY. It’s a misty driftwood extravaganza. And then the most incredible thing about this location is the sunsets. You have an unobstructed view to the northwest over the spit to watch the sun go down.

Stonehenge and Maryhill Museum, Maryhill, WA

Go just a little past White Salmon and be rewarded for your efforts by a pristine replica Stonehenge overlooking the Columbia River, and my favorite eccentric museum within the Continental USA (there are some contender in Europe and I don’t want to pick a winner right now). Absolutely visit Maryhill Museum and pay your respects at Young Michele’s childhood dream exhibition: La Theatre De La Mode. It does not disappoint, I promise. When Mike and I went out here for Mike’s birthday we stayed at an Airbnb in White Salmon, and it was the perfect one night getaway.

Bay Point Landing, Coos Bay, OR

Mike and I stayed here for two nights, on the house.

My only hesitation recommending this location is I would want more time to spend driving up and down the coast to make the distance worth while. It’s about 4 hours drive, and that felt like a lot of driving for two nights. That being said, Bay Point Landing lives up to all expectations. You stay in a private cabin or airstream, you have access to a pool with a sunset view, and you can even play shuffleboard in the game room with REALLY CUTE RUGS. It’s just really cool and really pretty. We got to see Sea Lions chillin at Cape Arago State Park, which was a lot of fun.

It has felt easier and safer for us to leave for a couple days instead of going on a bigger trip.

Please let me know if you take me up on any of these recommendations. I would love to hear about your weekend getaways!
