1940s Tiki Extravaganza

When I see a home listed online that is as unique as this one I have to visit in person. This home enticed me in multiple ways, but there was one things that really stood out - the Polynesian themed basement tiki bar.

The History

This is the first time this home has been on the market since it was build in 1947. It was originally owned by Ted Asbahr, a prominent Portland developer who built 3,000 homes in the Montavilla neighborhood. His son (and business partner) Roy currently owns the home. The listing says ‘ Polynesian themed basement was the site of many 50’s & 60’s parties & events.’ Those must have been some WILD parties.

2021

I can’t lie - I was hoping the listing photos made the home look in worse condition that it really is, but seeing it in person this home really will need a lot of work. I was blown away by how much of a time capsule this home was - it felt like literally nothing had been altered since the 1940s. It made it feel really magical, but in reality I think the next owner would have a lot of work on their hands.
