Bedroom Remodel, Midway Check-in

Mike and I are remodeling our upstairs bedroom. Obviously by that I mean we have hired someone to remodel our bedroom… we are not skilled people like that. We started in October, and should be finished in the next couple weeks. We have been sleeping in the basement, which has been fine, but honestly I’m ready to go back upstairs. I asked myself a few questions about the remodel I thought might be interesting.

Will you please show us some before photos?

Why are you remodeling your bedroom?

Our bedroom was the last room in the house that just didn’t bring us joy, and it was a room we spent a lot of time in.  The room always felt messy, even when it wasn’t, and had a couple major design flaws.  We have some attic storage space on our second floor that is accessed by these little demonic doors.  In the hallway they are manageable, but in the bedrooms they are just plain ugly.  They are too big to hide with art, totally asymmetrical, and out of place. The closet in our bedroom is large but inefficient and made the room too narrow for a king sized bed.

Ok, what changes are you making?

We hired our neighbor Nial, skilled carpenter, contractor, great person, to help us move the closet.  The closet will now be on a different wall, at the foot of the bed, and is taking a little space from the attic area.  The door is being sealed off (you can access that part of the attic from the hall) and we added a decorative wall with a shelf behind the bed.  We also smoothed out the plaster cracks in the walls and repainted.

Ok, sure, but what makes this special?

Nial is a woodworker and we love his organic and handmade style.  The closet doors will be trimmed in hand-carved wood.  This closet is going to be very pretty.

Tell me about what else is going into this room.

We got to go shopping for a new bed, mattress, sheets, curtains, window shades, pillows and blankets.  I am considering a new dresser, nightstands, and mirror, but first I’m going to place what we have and see how it all looks.
